Philippe Starck's "Juicy Salif" is 30 years old.

2020 is the year for a lot of things. Mainly bad things. Notwithstanding, it is also the 30th anniversary for Philippe Starck’s lemon squeezer. The iconice juicer was first designed in 1990 and Starck is rumoured to have said “It’s not meant to squeex lemons, it is meant to start conversations”, making his Juicy Salif arguably the greatest ever form-over-function kitchen utensil ever made.

The unusual (or maybe alluring, depending on your disposition) phallic piece stands at an impressive 11.5 inches tall and is made from cast and polished aluminium. It’s point of inception came while Starck was having lunch on the Amalfi coast and took inspiration from his plate of calamari, drawing the design on a paper napkin.

Say what you want about the Salif’s (admitttedly) average lemon squeezing abilities, but its a bona fide work of art, having taken a space at The Museum Of Modern Art, New York.
